The Presidential campaigns continue are becoming hotter by the day. As the would be presidential nominees continue to fight it out in the public town hall meeting and in the campaign Adds, the masses are watching. As Machiavelli would say, people judge by what they see as may have eyes. However, some words should not be said by persons who are running for public office. In my previous blog, I asked the question, why we let politicians get away with certain behavior?
This time around, Mitt Romney told a CNN interviewer, “I’m not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there.” So, who then is supposed to be concerned about them. If the person who claims to be the next president cannot provide such leadership towards the least among us then who will?
When Moses was ready to move the Israelites to the Promised Land, he did not mention that he would only move those that were able to walk through the desert, he took all of them—from the children to the elderly. Mitt Romney should not just be concerned about the rich but more about the poor. The reason is simple, if there are too many poor people and their needs are not taken care off, the rich will have to be concerned about their riches since it will be very difficult for them to sleep at night worrying about how to protect their wealth. In addition, it will be a sign of an unjust society which claims certain values, for which it does not believe in, and yet expects the rest of the world to follow. The next president needs to say that he will take care of the poor, and the least amongst us. It is not only just but also a Godly principle, which in the end is for the benefit of both the society, country and the world.
Mr. Would be president. If you want my vote . . . tell me you will be concerned about the poor.
